#1 I love the mood that this image evokes. Beautiful color, beautiful rendering of light and shadow to create a tone of mystery. The apparent intended subject near the center of the backlit arch draws my eye easily, and it’s pleasantly framed by the darker vertical columns. I also like how the photographer included the line of people at the bottom, which grounds the image and emphasizes the visual significance of the subject. Seeing the lone person above and the crowd below evokes a sense of story: Who is the loner? Why is he or she the only one appearing where they are? What’s in their (apparent) backpack? I also like how the verticals in this image are truly vertical, whether this was achieved in camera or in post. A very nice image.
