Judges Comments:
#1 A technically strong image. The elk appears tack sharp on my screen, and I love how the photographer has captured the beautiful gradations of color in the antlers. I also like how the photographer composed this image, with the elk off-center and gazing into the frame. That said, I’m not sure if the image size of the elk is on point with the intention of the assignment, where the negative space is supposed to be more substantive than the positive space. That consideration aside, this image might be even stronger if the tonality of the roof in the background were toned down just a tad. Its brightness kept drawing my eye away from the elk.
