#1 OK, I’m a sucker for good architectural photography, and this is a really nice image with great perspective control (no leaning verticals) and good exposure control (both the shadows and the brightest light show detail). The presumed subject of the pair walking toward the arch lends scale to the image and relevance to the prescribed intention of the competition. Although the walls to the left and right of the corridor are not identical, the simplicity of the one on the left seems to balance the greater complexity of the one on the right. I also like how the brightness and bulbous shape of the chandelier balances the diminutive size, darkness, and verticality of the people below it. Hard to tell if the darkening at the bottom and top is natural or introduced in the post, but it’s a nice touch that, if intentional, isn’t overdone and it subtly “squeezes” the eye toward the subject closer to the center.
